Primavera the Company
Primavera believes in exploring the finest plays in productions of high quality, exceptional casting, and invention. We're not afraid to take on the major classics, including productions of A Streetcar Named Desire and three Shakespeare plays. But we also have an interest in unearthing forgotten masterpieces and new plays which deserve a much wider audience.
The Primavera Team
A hugely talented company
The Scotsman
Primavera was founded in 2003 by director Tom Littler, and in 2008 the company became a registered charity, supported by five Honorary Patrons, who wanted to demonstrate their support of the Primavera mission. They are the playwright and director Peter Gill; the actors Penelope Keith, Felicity Kendal and Diana Quick; and the playwright Peter Nichols. What Primavera Does
A major influence on drama
Oxford Times
Primavera focuses on the production of revivals and new plays in need of a wider audience. Primavera's recent projects include the UK premiere of JT Rogers' Madagascar, with Sorcha Cusack, a revival of Bryony Lavery's Origin of the Species with Clare-Hope Ashitey and Marjorie Yates, and the West End premiere of Stephen Sondheim's Saturday Night, which transferred to the Arts after a successful run at the Jermyn Street Theatre (as well as acclaimed productions of Anyone Can Whistle and Passion by Sondheim). We also produced the first revival of Jingo: A Farce of War, by Charles Wood, starring Susannah Harker and Anthony Howell. Primavera also produces the Forgotten Classics Series. This programme of rehearsed readings features plays either by writers famous outside the world of theatre (for example as poets or novelists) or neglected plays by well known playwrights.
In 2007 Primavera also took a residency at the Finborough Theatre as part of the [ rediscoveries season 2007 ]. Primavera presented three fully staged productions-without-decor, all directed by Tom Littler: The Boatswains Mate, The Mollusc, and The Confidential Clerk.
